Is Taro toxic to pets?
Taro plants contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals in their leaves, stems, and corms. When chewed or bitten by pets, these needle-like crystals are released, causing immediate intense irritation, burning, and swelling of the mouth, tongue, and lips, excessive drooling, vomiting, and difficulty swallowing. Immediate veterinary attention should be sought if ingestion is suspected.
