Is False Castor Oil Plant toxic to pets?
The False Castor Oil Plant is extremely toxic to pets, including dogs, cats, and livestock. Ingestion of any part of the plant, especially the seeds and nuts, can lead to severe poisoning symptoms such as violent vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, lethargy, and dehydration. The seeds contain toxic compounds like curcin and phorbol esters that can cause severe gastrointestinal irritation and, in large amounts, prove fatal. Immediate veterinary attention is critical if a pet consumes any portion of this plant.
