Is Avocado Tree toxic to pets?
Avocado plants contain a fungicidal toxin called persin in their leaves, fruit, stems, and seeds, which can be extremely harmful to domestic pets such as dogs, cats, horses, and birds. Ingestion can lead to severe gastrointestinal complications including vomiting, diarrhea, respiratory distress, congestion, and in severe cases, fatal heart congestion. Pet owners should keep all parts of the avocado tree well out of reach of curious animals to ensure their safety and prevent accidental poisoning.
