Is Wood Anemone toxic to pets?
The Wood Anemone contains protoanemonin, a toxic compound released when the plant tissue is crushed or bruised. Ingestion by pets such as dogs and cats can lead to severe irritation of the mouth and digestive tract, resulting in excessive drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, blistering of the oral mucosa, and in severe cases, convulsions or systemic illness. Immediate veterinary attention is strongly recommended if ingestion is suspected.
