Wood Anemone
The Wood Anemone is a resilient, herbaceous perennial woodland flowering plant native to temperate regions of Europe. It typically blooms in early spring, creating breathtaking carpets of delicate white, pinkish, or occasionally blue star-shaped flowers across deciduous forest floors before the tree canopy fully leafs out. Spreading primarily through subterranean rhizomes, this low-growing ephemeral goes dormant during the summer months after setting seed. It thrives in shaded, moist environments rich in organic matter and is a classic indicator species of ancient woodland habitats, providing an essential early nectar source for emerging pollinators.
