Is Bitter Orange toxic to pets?
Bitter orange contains essential oils (such as limonene and linalool) and psoralens that are toxic to dogs, cats, and horses. Ingestion of the plant leaves, stems, or fruits can cause significant gastrointestinal upset, including vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and excessive drooling. In more severe cases, skin exposure to the plant can lead to phytophotodermatitis, resulting in painful rashes or blistering when exposed to sunlight. It is strongly advised to keep household pets away from this tree.
