Is Castor Bean toxic to pets?
The castor bean plant is extremely toxic to all pets, including dogs, cats, and horses. The entire plant contains ricin, a potent water-soluble toxin, and ricinine, an alkaloid found mostly in the seeds. Ingestion of even a single raw seed can cause severe abdominal pain, vomiting, bloody diarrhea, excessive drooling, lethargy, tremors, and potentially fatal systemic shock. Immediate veterinary intervention is critical if any part of this plant is ingested by a household pet.
