Is Ranunculus toxic to pets?
Ranunculus plants are toxic to cats, dogs, and horses when ingested. The plant contains a toxic compound called protoanemonin, which is released when the plant is damaged or chewed. Ingestion can cause severe irritation to the mouth and gastrointestinal tract, leading to symptoms such as excessive drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, blistering of the mucous membranes, and loss of appetite. Immediate veterinary attention is recommended if a pet consumes any part of this plant.
