Is Black Walnut toxic to pets?
Black walnut contains a chemical called juglone, as well as potential mycotoxins found in moldy fallen nuts, which can be severely toxic to dogs and horses. Ingestion of the hulls, shells, or spoiled nut meats can lead to gastrointestinal distress, tremors, neurological symptoms, and laminitis in horses. Exercise extreme caution by keeping pets away from fallen nuts and debris around black walnut trees.
