Is Christmas Rose toxic to pets?
The Christmas Rose is extremely toxic to pets, including cats, dogs, and horses. The plant contains potent cardiac glycosides, such as helleborin and helleborein, which can cause severe gastrointestinal distress, drooling, abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea, lethargy, tremors, and in severe cases, cardiovascular collapse or death. Immediate veterinary attention is vital if ingestion is suspected.
