Is Fig Plant toxic to pets?
Fig plants contain a milky white sap in their stems and leaves composed of proteolytic enzymes called ficin and psoralens. When pets such as cats and dogs chew on or ingest any part of the plant, this sap can cause intense irritation to the oral cavity, leading to excessive drooling, vomiting, and diarrhea. Additionally, skin contact with the sap can result in dermatitis and photosensitization, making it crucial to keep pets away from the foliage.
