Is Larkspur toxic to pets?
Larkspur plants are profoundly toxic to domestic pets such as cats, dogs, and horses. The plant contains dangerous diterpenoid alkaloids, such as delphinine, which can cause severe poisoning when ingested. Symptoms of larkspur poisoning in pets include excessive drooling, nausea, vomiting, muscle tremors, weakness, paralysis, and in severe cases, cardiac failure or respiratory arrest. Immediate veterinary intervention is critical if pet ingestion is suspected.
