Is Conifer Trees toxic to pets?
Many conifer varieties, such as certain pines, firs, and yews, can be toxic to pets if ingested. The needles, sap, and wood can cause gastrointestinal distress including drooling, vomiting, and diarrhea. Specifically, yews (Taxus species) are extremely toxic and contain lethal alkaloids that can cause sudden heart failure in cats and dogs, requiring immediate veterinary attention if any consumption is suspected.
