Is Deadly Nightshade toxic to pets?
Deadly nightshade is extremely toxic to all domestic animals, including dogs, cats, horses, and livestock. Ingestion of any part of the plant—especially the berries and roots—can lead to severe poisoning characterized by rapid heart rate, blurred vision, loss of coordination, dry mouth, confusion, seizures, and potentially fatal respiratory failure. Because animals may be attracted to the sweet taste of the berries or inadvertently consume the foliage while grazing, access to this plant must be strictly prevented. Immediate veterinary intervention is critical if ingestion is suspected.
