Is Mangrove toxic to pets?
Mangroves contain high concentrations of tannins and various salt-filtering compounds across their leaves, bark, and roots that are toxic to domestic pets such as cats and dogs. Ingestion of any plant parts can lead to severe gastrointestinal irritation, excessive drooling, persistent vomiting, diarrhea, and significant abdominal discomfort. Because these plants naturally accumulate high levels of salt and secondary chemical defenses, keeping pets away from coastal habitats where mangroves grow is strongly recommended to prevent accidental poisoning or severe digestive distress.
