Winter Melon
Winter melon, scientifically known as Benincasa hispida, is a large vine grown for its very large fruit, eaten as a vegetable when mature. It is the only member of the genus Benincasa. The plant is native to tropical Asia, likely originating in Southeast Asia or India, and is widely cultivated across tropical and subtropical regions. The fruit is characterized by a fuzzy coating when young, which matures into a thick, chalky white waxy bloom that gives it incredible shelf life, allowing it to keep for many months during the winter season.
