Cardboard Palm
The Cardboard Palm, scientifically known as Zamia furfuracea, is not a true palm but rather a cycad belonging to the Zamiaceae family. Native to the sand dunes of Veracruz, Mexico, this striking plant is renowned for its stiff, thick, fuzzy leaflets that possess a unique texture resembling cardboard, hence its common name. It features a woody, underground trunk that often grows horizontally or remains completely subterranean before producing a symmetrical rosette of arching fronds. Highly prized in tropical and subtropical landscaping, it thrives in warm climates and coastal environments due to its exceptional drought and salt tolerance. Despite its resilient nature and popularity as an ornamental patio or garden specimen, every part of the Cardboard Palm is highly toxic to humans and domestic animals if ingested.
