Fishtail Palm

Fishtail Palm

The Fishtail Palm, scientifically known as Caryota mitis, is a striking and unique tropical palm tree easily recognized by its distinctive bipinnate leaves that resemble the jagged tail fins of fish. Native to tropical regions of Southeast Asia, this multi-stemmed palm can grow quite large outdoors, though it also adapts well as an indoor specimen when given adequate bright light and space. Unlike many other palms, individual stems are monocarpic, meaning they die after flowering and fruiting, but the plant continuously produces new suckers from the base to maintain its lush, clumping appearance. It adds an exotic and dramatic architectural element to interior spaces, conservatories, and tropical landscapes alike.
