Buddha's Hand

Buddha's Hand

Buddha's hand is a fascinating and unusual citrus fruit variety belonging to the Rutaceae family, scientifically known as Citrus medica var. sarcodactylis. It is renowned for its distinct, segmented fruit that resembles human fingers or tentacles spreading outward, evoking images of a praying Buddha. Unlike conventional citrus fruits, it completely lacks pulp, juice, and seeds, consisting solely of fragrant white pith and a thick, highly aromatic yellow rind. Cultivated primarily for its intensely sweet, violet-like and lemon-blossom fragrance, it is widely utilized in traditional Asian cultures for perfuming rooms, religious offerings, and culinary zesting. The tree itself features irregular branches adorned with pale green leaves and large, purplish-white scented flowers. Due to its tropical and subtropical preferences, it requires specialized care including plenty of sunshine, well-draining soil, and protection from freezing temperatures to thrive successfully.
