Bluebells
Bluebells are iconic spring-flowering perennial bulbous plants native to deciduous woodlands in western Europe, famous for creating breathtaking, vibrant blue carpets across forest floors from April to May. These charming woodland wildflowers feature nodding, bell-shaped, sweetly scented violet-blue flowers carried on slender, arching stems, accompanied by glossy, strap-like green leaves. As cultural and ecological treasures, they are deeply associated with ancient woodlands and provide a crucial early nectar source for emerging pollinators such as bees and butterflies. They thrive in damp, humus-rich, well-draining soils under the partial shade of a woodland canopy, where they can naturalize extensively through both self-seeding and bulb offsets over many decades.
