Goldenrod

Solidago, commonly known as goldenrod, is a vast genus of perennial herbaceous plants belonging to the aster family, Asteraceae. Famous for their brilliant, feathery plumes of bright yellow flowers that bloom profusely in late summer and autumn, these resilient plants are an essential nectar source for migrating butterflies, bees, and many other beneficial insects preparing for the colder months. Contrary to common misconceptions, goldenrod pollen is heavy and sticky, meaning it is not wind-borne and does not cause hay fever; rather, it shares its flowering season with ragweed, which is the true culprit.
