Periwinkle
Periwinkle, scientifically known as Vinca minor, is a popular low-growing evergreen trailing vine valued extensively for its ability to form dense, glossy green carpets across difficult shaded landscapes. Producing delicate, cheerful pinwheel-shaped flowers typically in shades of blue or violet during the spring season, this resilient ground cover thrives effortlessly beneath large shade trees and along steep slopes where erosion control is necessary. As an exceptionally hardy plant, it adapts well to varying environmental conditions, though it performs best in moist, well-draining soils with partial to full shade. Despite its charming ornamental appearance, gardeners must exercise caution because periwinkle can become aggressively invasive in certain regions, outcompeting native understory flora if left completely unmonitored.
