Tasmanian Blue Gum
The Tasmanian Blue Gum, scientifically known as Eucalyptus globulus, is a tall, fast-growing evergreen tree native to southeastern Australia, including Tasmania and Victoria. Recognized as the floral emblem of Tasmania, this iconic species can reach immense heights in its native habitat, often featuring striking smooth, white-to-bluish bark that sheds in long strips. Its juvenile leaves are famously glaucous, ovate, and clasping, while adult leaves become lanceolate, curved, and deep green. Valued globally for its rapid timber production, essential oils, and role in forestry, the Tasmanian Blue Gum thrives in temperate climates with abundant moisture and full sunlight. It plays an important ecological role but has also been widely naturalized in various international regions.
