Orchid
Orchids constitute a massive, cosmopolitan, and highly diverse family of flowering plants with colorful and fragrant blooms that are globally prized for their beauty. Representing one of the two largest families of flowering plants, orchids are easily recognized by their highly specialized blossoms, often featuring bilateral symmetry and complex pollination mechanisms. Many popular indoor varieties, such as Phalaenopsis, are epiphytes that grow attached to other trees rather than in soil, requiring specialized coarse potting mixes like bark to thrive. They prefer bright, indirect sunlight, moderate indoor temperatures, and high humidity to replicate their native tropical forest habitats.
