Acerola
Acerola, scientifically known as Malpighia emarginata, is a tropical fruit-bearing shrub or small tree belonging to the Malpighiaceae family. Native to tropical regions of the Americas, including Central America, northern South America, and the Caribbean, it is widely celebrated for its exceptionally high vitamin C content. The plant typically features dense, glossy green foliage and produces small, bright red, cherry-like fruits that are tart and juicy. Beyond its nutritional value, acerola is frequently cultivated as an ornamental garden plant and can be trained into stunning bonsai specimens due to its woody trunk and delicate pink or white flowers.
