European Black Elderberry

The European Black Elderberry is a large deciduous shrub or small tree native to Europe and North America. Highly valued in traditional herbalism and culinary arts, the plant is famously used to make syrups, jams, and elderberry wine. While the cooked berries and flowers are safe and nutritious, raw parts of the plant contain cyanogenic glycosides and can cause gastrointestinal distress.
