Kapok Tree

Kapok Tree

The kapok tree, scientifically known as Ceiba pentandra, is a magnificent tropical tree native to the Americas, Africa, and Southeast Asia. It is widely recognized for its towering height, massive buttress roots, and large cylindrical trunks covered with sharp conical prickles. The tree produces large pods containing a light, fluffy, cotton-like substance surrounding its seeds, commonly referred to as kapok. This natural fiber is extremely buoyant, resilient, and water-resistant, making it historically valuable for stuffing mattresses, life jackets, and upholstery. Cultivated across tropical regions globally, the kapok tree also plays a vital ecological role by providing habitat and sustenance for numerous rainforest canopy species, including birds, bats, and insects.
