Paddle Plant

The paddle plant, scientifically known as Kalanchoe thyrsiflora, is a striking succulent native to South Africa. It is widely celebrated for its large, rounded, overlapping fleshy leaves that resemble stacks of pancakes. These attractive leaves feature a pale green or greyish-green hue coated with a powdery white bloom known as farina, which helps protect the plant from intense sunlight. When exposed to bright sunlight and cooler temperatures, the edges of the leaves take on a vibrant crimson or red margin. As a member of the Crassulaceae family, this drought-tolerant perennial is exceptionally well-suited for rock gardens, container planting, and bright indoor spaces where it can add architectural interest and unique texture.
