Rhododendron
Rhododendron is a very large genus of about 1,024 species of woody plants in the heath family, either evergreen or deciduous, and can be found mainly in Asia, but also in the Appalachian Mountains of North America. They are celebrated worldwide for their spectacular, showy clusters of flowers that burst into color during the spring and early summer months. Ranging from small low-growing shrubs to massive tree-like specimens, rhododendrons thrive in acidic, well-draining soils and cooler temperate climates. Their leathery, glossy green leaves provide year-round visual interest even when the plants are not in bloom, making them a cornerstone of traditional woodland gardens and shaded landscape designs.
