Brazil Nut Tree
The Brazil Nut Tree is a magnificent, massive canopy tree native to the Amazon rainforests of South America, widely recognized for producing large, highly nutritious edible seeds known as Brazil nuts. Standing as one of the tallest trees in the rainforest, it can reach towering heights exceeding 50 metres with a trunk diameter that spans several metres. These remarkable trees are famously dependent on undisturbed primary forest ecosystems because their unique flowers require pollination by specific large-bodied orchid bees, and their heavy, woody fruit capsules require the agouti, a rodent with strong enough teeth to crack open the tough shell, to disperse the seeds. Brazil nut trees are strictly tropical organisms requiring consistently warm temperatures, high humidity, and deep, well-draining acidic soils to thrive successfully.
