Breadfruit

The breadfruit is a species of flowering tree in the mulberry and jackfruit family, Moraceae, that was originally native to the Indo-Pacific and later spread throughout the Oceania region. Its name is derived from the texture of the moderately cooked fruit, whose taste is similar to freshly baked bread and has a potato-like consistency. These large trees can grow up to 26 meters in height, featuring deeply cut, glossy green leaves and producing large, starchy compound fruits. As a highly productive staple food crop in tropical regions, a single tree can yield hundreds of fruits per year, making it an essential agricultural resource for food security and traditional agroforestry systems across the globe.
