Saguaro Cactus

Saguaro Cactus

The Saguaro Cactus is a large, tree-shaped cactus species that can grow to be extremely tall, with distinctive arms curving upward as it ages. Native to the Sonoran Desert in Arizona, western Sonora, and a small part of California, it is an iconic symbol of the American West. These slow-growing giants can live for well over a century, developing a complex root system designed to capture scarce rainfall. They feature white, nocturnal flowers that bloom in the spring and produce edible red fruit historically harvested by indigenous peoples. Their massive ribs store large amounts of water, allowing them to survive extreme desert heat and prolonged droughts.
