Peacock Plant

The Peacock Plant, scientifically known as Goeppertia makoyana (formerly Calathea makoyana), is a stunning tropical perennial native to the rainforests of southeastern Brazil. Renowned for its highly ornamental foliage, it features translucent, pale green leaves adorned with deep green blotches and dark reddish-purple undersides. This mesmerizing pattern resembles a peacock's tail feathers, hence its common name. As a member of the Marantaceae family, it is also famous for its nyctinasty, meaning its leaves fold upward at night like praying hands and open again in the morning to greet the sun. Thriving best in warm, humid environments with bright, indirect light, the Peacock Plant makes an exceptional indoor statement piece.
