Couch grass
Couch grass is an aggressive, perennial grass species that is native to Eurasia and widely distributed throughout temperate regions of the world. Known scientifically as Elytrigia repens, it spreads rapidly via an extensive network of underground rhizomes, making it a notoriously persistent weed in agricultural fields, gardens, and lawns. Despite its invasive nature and reputation for choking out desirable plants, couch grass has historically been utilized in herbal medicine for its diuretic properties. Its deep root system allows it to withstand severe drought conditions and poor soil types, enabling it to thrive in disturbed environments where other vegetation often struggles to establish itself successfully.
