European Privet
European Privet, scientifically known as Ligustrum vulgare, is a semi-evergreen to deciduous shrub native to Europe, North Africa, and southwestern Asia. It is widely recognized for its dense foliage, fragrant white flowers in summer, and small, glossy black berries that persist into the winter months. Because of its hardy nature and dense branching habit, it has been extensively planted across the globe as an ornamental hedge plant and windbreak. However, in certain regions outside its native range, it can behave as an invasive species, outcompeting native flora. It adapts exceptionally well to urban pollution, heavy pruning, and a wide variety of soil conditions, making it a resilient and versatile choice for landscaping projects.
