Horseradish
Horseradish is a perennial plant of the Brassicaceae family, which also includes mustard, wasabi, broccoli, and cabbage. It is widely cultivated primarily for its large, tapered, white root, which is used as a spice and condiment due to its pungent flavor and sharp aroma. The plant features large, coarse green leaves and produces small white flowers on tall stems during the summer months. Native to southeastern Europe and western Asia, horseradish has naturalized in many temperate regions around the globe. It is exceptionally hardy, capable of surviving harsh winters and thriving in a variety of well-drained soils. Once established, the root system penetrates deeply into the earth, making eradication challenging if left unattended in a garden setting.
