Garden Chervil

Garden Chervil

Garden Chervil is a delicate, cool-season annual herb belonging to the Apiaceae family, native to the Caucasus and parts of Russia and Western Asia, but widely naturalized throughout Europe. Often referred to as French parsley, it features finely divided, fern-like bright green leaves and small white flowers clustered in umbels. Chervil has a subtle flavor reminiscent of a cross between parsley and anise, making it a staple in classic French cuisine, particularly in fines herbes blends. Because it bolts quickly in hot weather, it thrives best in shaded, cool environments with consistently moist, well-draining soil rich in organic matter. It is typically grown directly from seed in early spring or late summer.
