Dumb Cane

Dumb Cane is a very popular tropical foliage houseplant prized for its striking, large, variegated leaves featuring vibrant shades of green, cream, and white. Native to the tropical rain forests of Central and South America, it grows well indoors under bright, indirect light conditions. The common name 'Dumb Cane' originates from the toxic properties of its sap, which contains calcium oxalate crystals. When ingested or exposed to mucous membranes, these needle-like crystals cause immediate swelling, intense burning, and temporary loss of speech. Despite its high toxicity to humans and pets, it remains a beloved interior decoration plant due to its dramatic tropical appearance and relatively low maintenance requirements when proper watering and warmth are provided.
