Common Hop

The common hop is a vigorous, herbaceous perennial climbing plant belonging to the Cannabaceae family. It is widely cultivated for its female flower cones, known as hops, which are extensively used by the brewing industry to impart bitterness, flavor, and aroma to beer. Additionally, the plant possesses historical uses in traditional herbal medicine due to its sedative and relaxing properties. Characterized by rapid bine growth, the plant climbs counter-clockwise using stiff trichomes for support, dying back to the rootstock each winter before re-emerging in spring.
