Common Laburnum

The Common Laburnum is a stunning deciduous small tree or large shrub renowned for its breathtaking cascading clusters of bright yellow, pea-like flowers that bloom profusely in late spring. Often referred to as golden chain tree, it creates a striking visual display in gardens and landscapes. However, every part of the plant, especially the seed pods, contains the highly toxic alkaloid cytisine, making it extremely poisonous to humans and animals if ingested. Despite its toxicity, it remains a popular ornamental choice for temperate regions, thriving in well-drained soils and full sun to partial shade.
