Japanese Loquat

The Japanese Loquat, scientifically known as Eriobotrya japonica, is a large evergreen shrub or small tree prized for its lush, tropical foliage and delicious, sweet-tart fruits. Native to southeastern China, it has been cultivated for centuries across Asia and is now grown in subtropical and warm temperate regions worldwide. The plant features large, dark green, leathery leaves with serrated edges and prominent veins, giving it a distinctive ornamental appeal throughout the year. In autumn or early winter, it produces fragrant white flowers that bloom when many other plants are dormant, followed by clusters of round or oval, yellow-to-orange pome fruits in the spring. Loquats are a versatile landscape addition, serving wonderfully as a patio specimen, fruit orchard tree, or privacy hedge.
