Sweet Chestnut

The Sweet Chestnut, scientifically known as Castanea sativa, is a magnificent, large deciduous tree belonging to the beech family Fagaceae. Native to southeastern Europe and Asia Minor, it has been widely cultivated across temperate regions for its edible nuts and durable timber. The tree features long, serrated dark green leaves and produces spiny husks enclosing delicious starchy nuts in autumn. Sweet Chestnuts thrive best in well-drained, acidic soils under full sun exposure and can live for hundreds of years, making them both a valuable agricultural crop and a prominent landscape specimen in large gardens, parks, and traditional woodlands.
