Caraway

Carum carvi, commonly known as caraway, is a biennial herb belonging to the Apiaceae family, native to Europe, Western Asia, and North Africa. It is widely cultivated for its aromatic seeds, which are frequently used as a spice in European, Middle Eastern, and Indian cuisine. The plant features finely divided, feathery leaves resembling those of carrots and produces small white or pink flowers arranged in umbels during its second year of growth. Caraway prefers well-drained soils and full sun exposure, making it an excellent addition to herb gardens and vegetable plots. Beyond its culinary uses, caraway has a long history of traditional medicinal applications, particularly for digestive health, and yields essential oils utilized in flavoring and aromatherapy.
