Treasure Flower
Gazania rigens, commonly known as treasure flower or African daisy, is a stunning, low-growing perennial native to Southern Africa, widely celebrated for its brightly colored, daisy-like composite flowers that open wide in the sunlight and close at night or on cloudy days. The plant forms a neat rosette of narrow, lance-shaped leaves that often feature a contrasting silvery-white, woolly underside, which helps reduce moisture loss. Thriving in hot, dry conditions, treasure flowers are exceptionally drought-tolerant and make brilliant additions to rock gardens, coastal landscapes, containers, and borders. They require minimal maintenance once established, preferring poor to moderately fertile, well-draining soils and full sun exposure to showcase their intense yellows, oranges, reds, and bronzes. Because of their remarkable resilience and vibrant visual appeal, they are a favorite for gardeners looking to add prolonged seasonal color to challenging landscapes with poor soil or minimal water availability.
