Cabbage Palm
Sabal palmetto, commonly known as the cabbage palm, is a very hardy and adaptable palm species native to the subtropical regions of North America, particularly the coastal areas of the southeastern United States. It serves as the official state tree of both Florida and South Carolina. This distinctive palm features a stout, single trunk that can grow up to twenty meters tall, topped with a dense, rounded crown of fan-shaped fronds. It is exceptionally resilient, tolerating salt spray, poor sandy soils, periodic flooding, and strong hurricane-force winds, making it a popular choice for coastal landscaping, urban avenues, and wildlife conservation areas.
