Conifer

Conifers are a diverse division of vascular land plants containing single extant class, Pinopsida. They are gymnosperms, meaning they bear seeds unprotected in an ovule rather than enclosed in a fruit. Most conifers are trees, though some are bushes or shrubs. Famous examples include pines, spruces, firs, and cedars. They typically feature needle-like or scale-like leaves and produce woody cones. Conifers dominate vast boreal forests across the Northern Hemisphere and hold immense ecological and economic importance worldwide for timber and paper production, as well as serving as popular evergreen landscape and ornamental plants in gardens.
