Common Primrose
The common primrose is a beloved perennial herbaceous flowering plant native to western and southern Europe, northwest Africa, and parts of southwest Asia. It typically blooms in early spring, producing pale yellow flowers with darker yellow centers nestled in a basal rosette of crinkled green leaves. Primula vulgaris thrives in damp woodlands, hedgerows, and shaded garden borders. It is widely cultivated as an ornamental plant due to its charming, cheerful flowers that signal the end of winter. The plant prefers cool temperatures, rich and moisture-retentive soils, and partial shade to protect its delicate blooms from harsh afternoon sun.
