Kudzu

Kudzu is a sprawling, semi-woody, perennial vine belonging to the Fabaceae pea family. Native to East Asia, it is globally infamous for its aggressive invasive behavior in introduced regions such as the southeastern United States, where it smother forests, fields, and infrastructure under a dense blanket of green foliage. The plant features large, trifoliate leaves, fragrant purple-to-red flowers, and hairy seed pods. Despite its destructive ecological impact, kudzu has deep roots containing high amounts of starch, and various parts of the plant have traditional uses in Asian cuisine and herbal medicine. Controlling kudzu requires persistent physical removal or targeted chemical treatments because its massive root systems store vast amounts of energy.
